South Moravian Region

The four main universities of Brno cover a broad spectrum of study fields and thereby educating highly-skilled and open-minded people. Some of the leading research centres in the Czech Republic can be found within Brno’s universities and its Academy of Science. Those industries now undergoing the greatest development are concentrated in machinery, electro-technology, ICT and the life sciences.

The support given by South Moravia to science, research and innovation in the Czech Republic makes it one of the country’s premier regions. Specialized agencies such as the South Moravian Innovation Centre, South Moravian Centre for International Mobility or the Regional Development Agency of South Moravia contribute to enhancing technology transfer and the region’s improved competitiveness. South Moravia offers well-developed infrastructure for business and tools for business support (business incubators, technology transfer offices, an innovation centre) as well as brownfield sites for investors.

Large R+D projects can be realized within such a R+D-friendly environment. The main examples of such projects are CEITEC (Central European Institute of Technology), CERIT (Brno Centre for Education, Research and Innovations in ICT), ICRC Brno (International Clinical Research Center Brno) and the Regional Innovation Strategy. Other big projects are planned and will be financed by Operational Programme Research and Development for Innovation (ERDF).
