Cleantech Invest Event
On 22nd September the Cleantech Invest Event 2010, organised by Europe Unlimited, with the help of TecNet and the centrope capacity project, brought together the most innovative Cleantech SMEs from Europe to meet international venture capital investors. The Forum addressed issues and business around clean technology including the following sub-sectors: Wind and wave power, solar energy, Energy efficiency and storage, water and air purification, biomass, energy management, materials and recycling as well as water efficiency. At the end of the event the 10 best companies were awarded and got invited to the European Venture Summit Event, which takes place in Düsseldorf (Germany) on 6-7th December 2010. Three out of ten winners are coming from the Centrope Region:
- crystalsol Ltd. (Vienna)
crystalsol develops an entirely new type of flexible photovoltaic module with a significant cost and versatility advantage compared to all currently known photovoltaic technologies.
- Biogest Energie- und Wassertechnik Ltd. (Lower Austria - Klosterneuburg)
Biogest is an international technology-oriented engineering company that is active in business of renewable energy from biogas.
- ANTRO Group (Hungary- Szombathely).
The Antro Group develops, produces and contributes alternative vehicles, tools and products that provide solutions for today’s urging environmental and economic issues.
The European Venture Summit Event is the climax of a series of events organised by E-unlimited in 2010 in 9 different countries where companies from all over Europe got the chance to qualify themselves for this summit. In total 120 start-ups from the sectors of ICT, Life Science and Cleantech were selected and invited to the European Venture Summit Event. More than 100 international investors will be expected at the Summit Event to be on hand reviewing company presentations and looking for potential partnerships. Furthermore the European Venture Contest Jury will select the best 25 companies out of the 120 participants based on their company profiles. These 25 will be invited to the European Venture Contest 2010, which takes place in Barcelona, on 16th December 2010 to present their business in front of top investors and compete for a 90.000 euro prize.
Through the complex selection and competition process, these events play an active role in promoting innovation and sparking the European economy.
The centrope_tt project team wishes the companies representing the Centrope Region all the best for their participation at the European Venture Summit Event and hopefully at the European Venture Contest 2010. Furthermore it deeply hopes that these three companies will find the investors and partners they need in order to realise their innovations and business plans.
Centrope_tt Academy
Innovations are badly needed in Europe especially in the Centrope Region. The answer to this challenge for ambitious young professionals is the role model of “Transnational RTI Managers” This qualification is starting free of charge in February 2010.

The “Transnational RTI Manager” works as a qualified intermediary between SMEs, technology-orientated start up’s and spin off’s on one side - R&D and educational institutions on the other side aiming at their agreement on assistance on developing and implementing innovations addressing specific company and business needs.
The core task of this intermediary is assisting companies in finding the correct R&D contacts overcoming intercultural barriers and fostering communication and collaboration between these two parties to enhance the competitiveness of the businesses through innovation and the performance and image of the R&D and educational institutions.
The centrope_tt academy offers a programme for certification of “Transnational RTI Managers” according to latest standard, internationally approved by ECQA (European Certification and Qualification Association: www.ecqa.org).
The courses will be held in four sessions, 1 ? days each, in all four Centrope-countries:
- Feb. 24 to 25 in Bratislava
- March 17 to 18 in Brno
- April 14 to 15 in Györ
- May 12 to 13 in Vienna
All courses will be accompanied by innovation clubs: site excursions to innovation leaders, meeting with local experts and successful start-ups.

Knowledge Management Centre at Széchenyi University in Győr
The Knowledge Management Centre started to operate at Széchenyi University in Győr in September. “This programme is the heart and engine of the renewal of the university”, participants of the project claim. The task of the new organisational unit is to exploit the knowledge property of the institution by introducing new services, which fulfil internal institutional and external partner demands on the highest level. The knowledge map of the university will be compiled, and based on the competence lists of the departments the research catalogue of the institution will be prepared. At the Innovation Office connected to the project those interested can find help to realise their development ideas with mentoring and professional advice. Experts support those turning to them with market analysis, business plan and cooperation in the compilation of research-innovation projects, as well as technology transfer and experts planning the establishment of spin-off enterprises.

Projects of the NYME-ERFARET Nonprofit kft.: serving sustainable development
Exploiting the research capacities of the Nyugat-magyarországi Egyetem (University of Western Hungary), the Forest and Tree Exploitation Regional University Knowledge Centre (Erdő- és Fahasznosítási Regionális Egyetemi Tudásközpont (ERFARET)) founded by the university is pursuing agrarian-technical R+D activities. Their objective is to establish a scientific and technological innovation centre based on a network principle, which is able to cooperate effectively and intensively with the business sphere mainly as a regional catchment centre. Their aim is to incubate spin-off and start up companies and help them professionally. Their forestry and wooden industry research is coordinated in accordance with the needs of industrial corporations, and within the framework of the programme they create opportunities to manage the innovative ideas of young university researchers and students. At present, work is in progress to set up a laboratory equipped with a 3D scanner and 3D printer, which is able to apply rapid prototyping and reverse engineering technologies.

An Engineering Innovation Centre was inaugurated in Zalaegerszeg
The Pannon Development Foundation has opened an Engineering Innovation Centre in Zalaegerszeg. Besides the Pannon Mechatronics Cluster coordinated by the foundation, cooperating with a hundred partner organisations a Technology Centre started work, which makes the innovation park the engineering R+D centre of the region. The centre, which has just been inaugurated is a technical service providing and research workshop. The partner organisations are also helped by the Innovation Centre with material analysis and technical services. The main partner of the new industrial measuring laboratory of the centre is the Engineering and Mechatronics Institution of the University of Western Hungary. An innovative initiative of the Incubator house in Zalaegerszeg related to the project is the “engineering nursery”, where beginner engineers pursue production preparation and innovative activities on the commission of small and medium enterprises.

AUDI Hungária expands its factory in Győr: a 900 million EUR project
Viktor Orbán, the Prime Minister of Hungary and Rupert Stadler, head of the Board of Directors of AUDI AG announced in the Hungarian Parliament at their joint, international press conference that the car manufacturing company will invest approximately 900 million EUR into the expansion of vehicle manufacturing and by this will create 1800 new jobs in Győr. With the land procured recently the industrial area of the factory increased from 174 hectares to 370 hectares. Work will start still this year. The decision will set the direction of economic development in Győr, as it is the biggest project in the region in the past 15 years. In the future the company will perform the complete manufacturing process here, from body manufacturing through varnishing to assembly. From 2013 in Győr each year 125,000 thousand cars will leave the assembly line, including the Audi TT Coupé, Roadster, A3 Cabriolet and a variant of A3, which is still on the designer’s desk.
