Lower Austria
Lower Austria is the largest federal province in Austria. Today it is one of the top business locations for companies in Europe, especially in the field of technology. One benefit of Lower Austria is the close position to Vienna and the rapidly-growing markets of Central and Eastern Europe. 185 technology-oriented institutes already enjoy the advantages offered by Lower Austria as an innovative European high-tech location. Among its R&D institutes, Lower Austria boasts some well known universities such as the Danube University Krems and the FH Wiener Neustadt as well as the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology at Seibersdorf.
Small and medium sized companies in the province receive support through network and cluster activities, which are connected with others within and outside the region. Special clusters have been established for future industries: plastics, green building, automotive, logistics and food.
Innovative strategies for future industries have enabled Lower Austria to cement its international reputation as a high-tech region. The Lower Austrian Technopol program is leading the way through its pioneering bundling of education, research and business. Internationally acclaimed research activities are situated at each of the three Technopol locations in Krems, (biotech and regenerative medicine), Tulln, (agrobiotechnology and environmental biotechnology), and Wiener Neustadt (materials, process and chemical engineering, medical technology, sensory technology and actuators and surfaces).
